Giethoorn, also known as “Venice of the North”, is a well-known tourist village. The village is situated in the middle of scenic area “De Wieden”. Together with National Park De Weerribben this scenic area is one of Europe’s largest and most beautiful wetlands.
In Giethoorn you can enjoy numerous (plank) bridges, many viewing holes and beautiful rustic gardens with characteristic farms. You can explore the surroundings both by foot, bike or boat.
You can visit one of the shipyards and discover how, according to tradition, the original wooden punts are constructed. There are various museums, for example: Duikersmuseum (Divers museum), Histo-Mobiel, De Oude Aarde (The Old Earth), Schelpenmuseum (Shell museum), Museumboerderij (Museum Farm), Beeldenroute (Sculpture route) etc.
There are more than 20 terraces and/or beaneries or restaurants. They offer pancakes, pizza’s, local dishes or French food.
